If you would like the date in the System Tray along with the time, right-click on the Taskbar (ensure that Lock the Taskbar is deselected) then drag the top edge of the Taskbar upward until it snaps to twice its normal height. The clock displays three lines rather than one, showing the current time, the day of the week, and the current date. I found this accidentally and guess it helps someone out there.
